An Important Note from Principal Grasso
March 11, 2020
We understand this is an unprecedented and challenging time for all in our community. We are committed to partnering with parents to navigate this time to best support our children academically, socially, and emotionally.
As we move forward, Dr. Luizzi will continue to provide updates regarding the status of our schools and anticipated reopening. The purpose of this communication is to share with you the electronic learning (“e-learning”) process that we will follow during this period of closure to provide continuity of learning for our students.
Your child’s classroom teacher will communicate with you or your child on a daily basis to connect with the class, share instructional resources and assignments, and provide feedback. For Kindergarten-Grade 2, this communication will come to you via email. For Grades 3 and 4, students will use Google Classroom and/or email as the method of communication with their teacher.
During this time, continuity and structure will play an important part in your child’s e-learning experience. We appreciate your support at home by following the steps below:
- Follow a daily schedule and use the teacher-provided resources with your child each day.
- Designate a specific location in your home where your child can work each day using the materials provided by your child’s teacher.
- Maintain a typical routine for your child each day (wake up time, breakfast, getting dressed before beginning the daily e-learning schedule, etc.).
- Support your child in submitting work to the teacher as directed in the daily schedule.
- Email your child’s teacher if you have questions about tasks or resources.
If your child is sick or is unable to participate in the e-learning work for a given day, it is important that you notify us and indicate this in your message. Parents should notify us of absences as usual by calling the main office number; while our buildings will be closed, our school secretaries will retrieve voicemail messages on the attendance line. Please note that we will not enter absences into Power School during this time.
If you or your child need access to any mental health support during the period of our school closure, please contact your building principal and we will refer you to the appropriate staff member. Below are links to resources that parents may find useful if students have questions regarding COVID-19:
As indicated in earlier communication from Dr. Luizzi, if you do not have technology at home for your child to engage in the e-learning experiences, please contact your building principal immediately so that technology can be arranged promptly.
We recognize that this may be a challenging time and we appreciate that each family will make its best effort on behalf of their children. We know that nothing can replace the instructional experiences that occur in our classrooms as students engage with each other and their teacher, but we are confident that this plan supports children in continuing to grow as learners and in remaining connected to their teachers and our school community.
Feel free to contact me with questions and concerns, stay safe and thank you for understanding the need for this extraordinary action.
